Job description

Role Summary

The Production Planning & Scheduling Expert is responsible for creating, optimizing, and maintaining production schedules across multiple high‑speed converting lines. This role ensures material availability, minimizes disruptions, and supports accurate execution of production plans. The planner will also coordinate master data, material phase‑in/phase‑out processes, and MRP‑related activities while working closely with Purchasing, Operations, Warehouse, and the European planning/project teams.

This position is central to maintaining reliable supply, preventing raw material shortages, and supporting Drylock’s expansion in Reidsville.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  1. Production Scheduling
  • Build and manage production schedules for all Reidsville production lines.
  • Maintain real‑time visibility of work-in-progress (WIP) and adjust schedules based on downtime, RM availability, customer priorities, or operational constraints.
  • Communicate schedule changes proactively to Operations, Quality, Warehouse, and Maintenance.
  • Lead weekly production planning meetings (as referenced in internal planning routines).

 

  1. Material Requirements Planning (MRP)
  • Ensure timely availability of raw materials by coordinating closely with Purchasing and tracking supplier lead times.
  • Monitor MRP exceptions, planned orders, and RM constraints in SAP, including longer‑range IBP visibility.
  • Support resolution of material shortages by analyzing root causes, forecasting issues, and proposing corrective actions.
  1. Material Phase‑In / Phase‑Out Coordination
  • Lead RM transitions to prevent shortages.
  • Validate discontinuation flags, follow‑on materials, and BOM accuracy prior to production order release.
  • Track effective start/end dates and communicate changes to relevant stakeholders.
  1. Master Data & SAP Planning
  • Maintain and coordinate master data such as BOMs, routings, and planning parameters, aligned with the global PM/Project team expectations.
  1. Cross‑Functional Collaboration
  • Work with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and Warehouse to drive seamless production execution.
  • Align schedules and material plans with Purchasing (e.g., coordination with buyers on long lead‑time materials).
  • Provide clear communication on schedule risks and contingency plans.
  1. Reporting & Continuous Improvement
  • Analyze capacity, historical production data, and forecast accuracy to improve long‑term planning reliability.
  • Identify and resolve bottlenecks through data‑driven decision making.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts and support implementation of new planning tools.

 

Skills & Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • Strong proficiency with ERP systemsSAP strongly preferred (including MRP, production order management, master data transactions).
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, data modeling).
  • Understanding of demand planning, IBP logic, and MRP exception handling.

Analytical Skills

  • Ability to analyze production performance, capacity, RM requirements, and inventory data.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, especially for identifying root causes of planning disruptions.

Communication Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to coordinate between Production, Purchasing, Maintenance, Quality, and global teams.
  • Ability to clearly communicate schedule risks, changes, and priorities.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Prior experience in production planning, scheduling, supply chain, or manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.
